Devotion

it's January and I bring you hot chocolate,
an extra blanket for your toes; I bend to
kiss you, drifting back to warmer days,
the sun's golden rays shining down on your
skin, all pink and cream and satin, tufts of
cotton billowing up and around your body,
glistening with sweat and lotion, the scent
of cocoa butter lingering about in the warm
moist air of the Caribbean, clear blue water
sparkling in the mid-day sun, the gentle
rolling of the breeze and surf and seabirds
kicking up sand,

me returning with frozen margaritas,
a handful of ice cubes
